Power supply upgrade in Namibia

Hi there,

an important post concerning our systems in Namibia. We got new batteries that have to be installed, while the current ones will be removed. To do this, we will turn off the power to the observatories beginning monday, 11th july 2022. We do expect to loose the night, and have the job done and be back online one day later.

Also, the Dream Scope in New Mexico will enter a planned maintenance period next week, with an upgrade of the filters (switch to Chroma filters) and recollimation.

How long do you expect the NM Dreamscope to be down?

@SkG well, the changes are scheduled to take about one week... Thereafter, it will be mostly dependent on the monsoon season, which is supposed to go into august... So from September onwards, roughly, the Dream scope should be usable "normally", i.e. every night.

Alright, so both New Mexico and Namibia are in maintenance as planned.

Namibia shall be available again from 12th july 2022 evening onwards. Any new requests will be queued and submitted once the systems get back online.

For New Mexico, the outage will be a little longer. With the monsoon it's not a big deal anyway. We will switch the system there to Voyager as platform (like the FSQ106) so we expect more predictable and stable runs from then on as well 🙂

jvagut Yes, a WIndows update ran and shut down the pc. We are waiting for somebody on-site restarting the PC :/
