Thanks a lot an happy new year!

Thanks for the present Lukas and happy 2022 to all.
BTW, will the data be also calibrated?

Sina I will try to process it later on. Currently, best is to grasp some calibration data on our FTP server and proceed from there.

    FTP Server: files.skygems-observatories.com
    Username: calibration
    Password: calibration

Sure, I used the calibration data.
Several of the Leonard images didn't seem to have captured the comet, so I ended up using just 4 min of RGB each and 6 min of L (binned x2). I had a difficult time integrating/aligning the 1x bin images, but a total of 6 min Luminance was also added to come up with the enclosed image.

      SIna, well done!
Yes, the data comprises three fields along the tail. We wee hoping to catch some more detail towards the end πŸ™‚

lukas_demetz thank you so much for sharing this data!
It looks like there are only 5s darks, will you be shooting any 15s for these, or just using the 5s?

There are also 20s, 30s, 60s and 120s darks on the FTP πŸ™‚

Yeah, I found 30s, but 5s is closer and I'd rather under correct than over correct by so much.

Are they in the /Veloce Namibia/Darks/Dark folder? I can't sort them in any way that organizes them by exposure time, and scanning the file names I don't see any that look like 20s.

You are right, no 20s ones, but the 5s or 30s shall work well in both cases, just add bias where needed. Note that there are both Bin1 and Bin2 data there πŸ™‚

      Dear Lukas,
Generous indeed. My thanks to all involved. After weeks and weeks of continuous cloud in UK, this will be highly appreciated.
      Best wishes,
      John C

Many many thanks for this very welcome present! Best wishes and a Happy New year for all the team!

Kindest Regards and the Clearest Skies,

      Vasile

      Hello!

Does anyone have data they could share from December 31st evening?

I captured RGB data but miscalculated RA/DEC and missed the coma.

I will share my data with a Creative Commons license. R/G/B 120s exposures.

Does anyone else have some data with the coma from December 31st that I could mosaic with this? I’ve never done a comet mosaic in Pixinsight before so that’ll be another learning challenge.

      Thanks
      Darshan

Happy new year, and many thanks!
Did some quick processing with APP and Affinity Photo
      yesterday. Here the preliminary result.

Will the calibrated data be shared also? I tried calibration using the files from the server, but I'm left with quite some vignetting πŸ™ Maybe I'm missing something somewhere...

Avdhoeven How much is quite some ? The master frames from MaximDL have a PEDESTAL keyword (offset to prevent negative counts in the files) that needs to be added (if ignored by your reduction software), otherwise the flat might be off by 0.5%, and the bias frame by 10%.

On a sidenote, there might be other reasons, although I'm not sure if they are at play in this case: shutter-time dependent flat-field (which shouldn't be an issue with the electric rolling shutter of the QHY600M on the Veloce but which I have seen before on an FLI PL16803 due to the finite shutter opening/closing time) or a focus dependent flat-field (this effect is hopefully small if the flats were taken with ~ same focus setting).

Yeah, indeed the Veloce is VERY tricky to get properly flat-calibrated. We will try to get some flats in the coming days with a flat panel. If this improves the situation, the plan is to install such a panel at the observatory and take the flats regularily that way.

I share my result with this dataset. Could not get a flat background on all the exposures, I just used those acceptable and applied a shallow post processing.
        Thanks Lukas for this!
