Hi there,
now that the CDK500 is finally on its way to Spain for being mounted, we are considering what else we might need in Spain.
One idea which keeps popping up is to have a similar, wide field system in Spain as we have in Namibia. In addition, being able to get very low to the horizon would be desirable. We are exploring the option to get a dome built which could reach 0° altitude towards the North. The system we would install would be a FSQ106 or similar, with an IMX455 camera. At the end, it would be similar to the Veloce in Namibia - minus all the issues that plagued the Veloce at the beginning (at least thats's what I hope).
What do you think? It would be a neat system for astrometry and wide field imaging, with a whopping FOV of 3.89° x 2.60°!
