One unique consistent image ID in the dashboard and the filename

While trying to ask for a refund on defective images, it is difficult to match the name of the (calibrated) image I'm inspecting with the list of files shown in the dashboard, specially now that the previews not always work. The times in the filename are not the same than the times in the dashboard, and the dashboard names are not equal to the names of the downloaded images.
My suggestion is to assign to each image taken a unique ID, to show it in the dashboard and include it in the filename of the raw and calibrated image.

thank you for the heads up! At least the previews are now again working 🙂
Anyway, what I could do is show the actual filename. Would that be helpful?

This would be pretty straightforward to implement and offer a 1:1 match between files and observations... 😀

it certainly seems a pretty good solution for matching the names in the daskboard with the downloaded files. 😃

I reopen this request: truncated filenames and times in the preview screen don't match with the downloaded filenames (as for example in RID 12480), making it very difficult to find in the preview area the images to ask for refund after inspecting the downloaded files.

Let's say the filename "12480-0-Cabeza_Bruja_V4_Blue_LIGHT_Blue__300s_BIN2_NoCoolingC_0008_20221209_213106_103_GA0_OF_RPA_W_F15796.FIT" needs to be refunded. Is it not matching the ones shown on the Dashboard?

What is true is that now, with Voyager, we save the "end" time of the shot, while in the filename you find the "start" time... Need to find a better way of dealing with this...

@Eduardo Ok, I have now done something to mitigate the issue for now. When asking for a refund, the filename is shown.
The real problem is that I am running out of usable screen space for those long filenames 🙂 I will look into it tomorrow.

This is really helpful, thank you, Lukas. And... what about to come back to my original idea of assigning a random ID or hash to each file and include it in the filename and on the dashboard? well, probably is not feasible or very hard. but it looks to me as the perfect fix.

Hmm, not that easy. We are saving each filename together with each observation, so there is a 1:1 correlation. I will now add a funcction to show the filenames also in the list, so if you are hunting for that bad file you can even filter for it 🙂

Oh, yes, showing the full filename it's enough for the purpose. But then, it seems to me that the "name" column is largely redundant, isn't it? and you can gain precious screen space by removing it.
