I am intrigued by the new Samyang Namibia set-up. I can't identify a Samyang product that fits the description and neither 135mm nor 161mm seem appropriate for the nearly 16degrees FoV. Can anyone cast some light?

Hi @conspicuity ,

well, the system is still in testing and it looks like we will only be able to use it partially until I will be on site again in october. The optics are 135mm focal, but we had to f-stop it at f4.0, resulting in 161mm of focal. There is still some tilt in the optics which will be a hassle to fix, but most issues currently come from a slipping focuser...

UPDATE 28 July 2023: We are back at letting it run to gather some more vitals. It works "well enough"; here is a test shot:

I hope you succeed in getting it in good shape. I really like the idea of wide angle shots of the southern hemisphere.

@conspicuity Well, I will let it be booked in the coming days. Still need to sync the opening and closing of the roof between the Samyang and H8 🙂

You might have noticed, the Samyang had a nasty encounter with the observatory roof about two weeks ago. We are getting it back in shape now, with "only" a touch of the polar alignment needed. Afterwards it should be ready to be used, finally
